Krewe of The Brass Monkey
Organized 2007

The Krewe of the Brass Monkey is a non-profit volunteer organization established in August of 2007, brought together by a strong group of dedicated individuals striving to make a difference in our community.

All members are encouraged to volunteer with many local based charities, with emphasis on but not limited to special needs organizations.

In the 16th and 17th century, the “Monkey” was a small coastal trading vessel, single mast, with a square sail. Members’ costumes of colorful vest, knickers, colonial style shirts and black boots with jackets and hats (optional) portray merchant traders of that time period.

A “Powder Monkey”, who in early days, carried gun powder from magazines to cannons and performed other duties on warships, will service as security for our traders.

On board our “Brass Monkey Vessel”, you will find various items associated with the “Monkey”, such as “monkey pump”, straws used to take liquid from a small hole in a cask, “monkey island” a ship’s upper bridge.

Membership    Men and Women are accepted into the Krewe of the Brass Monkey. Membership is limited to 125 members and you must be sponsored by an active member of the Krewe. Dual membership in another Krewe is allowed, with some restrictions.
