The Sweetwater Paddle for the Cure is a kayak, paddle craft and standup paddle board race and family fun paddle started in 2009 to have fun and raise money and awareness For Multiple Myeloma Research. All proceeds for the event go to benifit the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. Organized by Beat Cancer With A Paddle, a non profit foundation, this is the Third Annual Paddle. Set against the skyline of downtown Tampa the day consists of two events, a five mile race with electronic timing and race catagories for surf skis and race kayaks, sea kayakas, recreational kayaks and sit on tops and Standup Paddle Boards. Following the 5 mile race there is a two mile family fun paddle for anyone who just wants to get out on the water, have fun, see downtown Tampa, try a kayak or paddleboard and help BEAT CANCER WITH A PADDLE
The agency was established in 1953 by parent volunteers who met that January, seeking an alternative to the institutionalization of children with developmental disabilities. In an era where the prevailing practice of the medical community was to advise families to institutionalize children with developmental disabilities, these parents began asking how they could positively impact the future for all people living with developmental disabilities. Foundation of Courage in cooperation with 1 Voice Foundation puts on the Badge Bowl annually. Each year a special family is selected to be the primary recipient of funds raised to aid them with household expenses and give them the opportunity to take off of work and care for their child.
The Badge Bowl is a flag football game between Tampa Fire Fighters and Tampa Police. Prior to the football game there is a carnival atmosphere with food, games, a raffle and a silent auction with incredible prizes.
